1 driver injured, 1 dead in 2-vehicle crash
A portion of Route 8 in Hampton, Pennsylvania, closed down recently following a two-vehicle crash that left one driver dead and the other injured. Authorities continue to investigate the collision and intend to determine whether to file charges in consultation with the district attorney’s office.
The collision occurred in the area of Mt. Royal Boulevard in the early afternoon of Tuesday, May 26th, 2020. Neither vehicle carried any occupants other than the two drivers.
Erratic driving
One of the vehicles involved in the collision was a minivan, while the other was a sedan. The sedan reportedly struck the minivan at a high rate of speed after crossing the center line. Witnesses report the sedan driving erratically just prior to the collision. Homicide detectives and collision reconstructionists investigating the scene confirmed that the sedan had been traveling in a southbound direction on Route 8 just prior to the collision
Death and injury
The 35-year-old man driving the sedan sustained injuries in the collision but is in stable condition following treatment at a local hospital. The driver of the minivan was a 77-year-old man who later died of his injuries at the hospital. As each man was the sole occupant of his respective vehicle at the time of the collision, there were no other injuries resulting from the crash.
Ongoing investigation
Because one man lost his life in the crash, the Homicide Unit continues to investigate it. Authorities have not offered any specifics as to when the public can expect to learn whether or not they intend to file criminal charges against the driver of the sedan.
